!Happy Halloween!

Graphing Homework

On Friday, I sent home the homework that is due Tuesday. It was not necessarily intended to be done until Monday evening. This is because we have not yet discussed the y axis having increments of more than one, but rather 5's or 10's if necessary. We would use larger increments if we had data that exceeds an amount that can't be worked with due to space restraints.
This will be covered on Monday, however if you are confident in your ability to guide your child through this homework, please do!
Sorry for any confusion.

Happy Birthday Aaron!

Wow...another 8 year old. Happy Birthday to Aaron and thank you to Mrs.Penaflor for the AMAZING cupcakes. Hope you enjoy your Birthday weekend Aaron!

Homework - Due Tomorrow - Friday, Oct. 29th.

In the green folder is homework requesting you to sit and list any food items that you serve for an event or feast. Please make sure this comes back tomorrow.

Halloween

My apologies for not posting something sooner. There are not BIG plans for Halloween so I didn't put much importance on informing everyone of the 'plan'.

Tomorrow morning there is movie scheduled. The middle of the day is tied up with Drama and Music and the final part of the day, 2pm-315pm, we will have our 'party'. I welcome treats of your choice but am not requesting them. I feel they will be hopped up on enough adrenaline that sweets are not necessary. I will leave it up to you.

Costumes can be worn in the afternoon and we will have a costume contest and play some games during that time as well.

FYI

This note is to inform families about a reoccuring problem in our class.

While you're waiting anxiously to meet your children at 3:15, you may often be wondering "where on earth is Ms Lowen's class? I've been waiting for 5 minutes...sometimes 10!!"

I promise you parents, time management is something I take VERY seriously. Begin on time is very important in all stages of life for all different reasons.

As November is quickly approaching, I'm sorry to say that the behaviour of the children, specifically between 3:00-3:15 is what ultimately makes us late.
The last 15 minutes of the day are spent doing our class jobs and getting ready for home. You'd think this is an easy task, but many children struggle at this time. They need MANY reminders of what is suppose to be done and what their role is. There are a handful of children who do this flawlessly and they know who they are. I'm asking families to discuss the importance of following through with class routines and more importantly, teacher directions/instructions.

At the end of the day when chaos strikes, is the time when the class gets an earful from me. Or more specifically, they get to see my bad side, a side that should never ever surface. I am required to address the problem on the spot, not the following day, so if you find yourself waiting, do not fret. They will emerge from exit door E eventually, maybe one by one, but it will happen.

If you have any questions or concerns, send them my way.
Thanks in advance for your ongoing support.

Studying our Spelling Words

At home, try this method of studying the spelling words
- Write each word on a cut-out of paper. Make a pile of the words.
- Choose one word at at time and study it by spelling it out loud repeatedly. If you are a visual learner, you may want to write the words repeatedly on a separate piece of scrap paper.
- Place the spelling word face-down and try spelling the word without looking.
- Don't move on the the next spelling word until you can master the previous.
- Once all the words have been studied, have a family member test you. You can either write the words or spell them out loud as they are given.
Happy Studying!

There are number of children who have outstanding library books. Without bringing these books back, they are unable to sign out any more and really cannot benefit from the schools library. Please ensure that any books found in your home are sent back as soon as possible.

Please Check...

DPA Winner

Sebastian proved himself very worthy of the DPA prize today! Nice Work. Who will it be next week??!

POP quiz

An addition and subtraction pop quiz was given today. You will find it in your child's bag.
A common error among some of the students is not paying close enough attention to the operation...that being - or +. Another error commonly made is when numbers are carried over but are not then added into the next column. These errors can be avoided by paying close attention. The basic steps are there but carelessness gets in the way.
Over the weekend, ensure that you are helping your child avoid problems like these. Thanks!
