Grade 3 Science

It Will Survive!


The Grade 3’s have been studying soil and its importance on plant growth. We just recently began to explore plant life and have specifically focused in on how plants produce their own food through a process called Photosynthesis (make sure you ask your son/daughter to explain the process to you tonight!). As part of our Plants Unit, each student is required to bring in a plant to look after until the end of the year. Their plant will remain in the classroom and it will be their sole responsibility to ensure it receives enough water, sunlight and air to grown strong and healthy. Head to your nearest grocery store or garden center this weekend and find a small plant that is just in its beginning phases of growth. The type of plant chosen is completely up to individuals, but consideration must be made as to the type of exposure the plant needs. Remember it will be remaining indoors. Below is a short list that you may want to consider. Otherwise, be sure to ask the botanist at the garden store for suggestions on what to buy and how to care for it.

Money Math Test and New Unit

Yesterday we took a math test that combined everything we've been learning in our money unit.  
It has been marked and I have reviewed it with everyone (except the grade 2's).  The grade 3's are bringing it home tonight for review with parents and it should be signed and returned ASAP.  This will happen with the grade 2's tomorrow.
Today we began fractions.  There is homework coming home tonight and is due tomorrow.

Homework

Grade 2's
The twos have been working hard on a research project.  They've chosen a continent and have pulled out important information. They have made their own notes and have started to transfer the info onto their poster today. They are bringing their poster home tonight and are to spend no more than 30minutes on it.  It is to come back to school tomorrow.

Grade 3's
We have been working on subtracting money amounts.  Eight questions have been written out in their workbooks and are to be completed tonight and brought back tomorrow.  We will correct them first thing in the morning.

Movie Time

Next Friday, March 9th, our class along with many others, have been invited to watch The Lorax 3D at the Cineplex on Lebovic Dr.
The admission for each child would normally be $9.00, but I have told the class that as a reward to helping out with lunch bins for the month of February, I will cover $4 for each child.  They worked so hard for 4 long weeks and deserve a reward. Due to time constraints, these permission forms are due back to me by this Tuesday, March 6, with the $5.
