Grade 2 and 3 Homework

The grade 2's have been assigned a new book this week for review, however it did not make it into their school bags.  They will get them on Monday and will have an opportunity to work on them at school and will bring them back home Monday evening.

The Grade 3's are not getting a new book this week.  They have the week off from homework.  They are however bringing home a math package which reviews the years concepts. The more that gets done, the better, but this by no means needs to be completed for Monday.  It can come back to school on Monday.

Measurement Homework

We have begun to explore weight...the MASS of objects to be exact.
We use kg (kilograms) to measure heavy things and have learned that a 1L bottle of water weighs about 1kg.  A large hard-cover dictionary also weighs about 1kg as does a freezer zip lock bag full of wood chips, or interlocking cubes.

We learned that a g (gram) is a unit of measure used to measure light objects such as coins, pencils, paper etc.   There are 1000g in 1kg...important to remember.
Homework due for tomorrow is on a pink sheet, and homework due for Friday (an At-Home kg search) is due on Wednesday.  Tickets will be given to those who return their work on time.

Jump Rope for Heart

What a great day for Jump Rope!
I can honestly say that just about everyone in our class knows how to skip - that's pretty awesome!.  Every student has been rewarded with 1 skipping rope for their participation in today's event!
On behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, thank you for all the fundraising that you did over the 2 weeks.  Not everyone participated but of the 11 who did, we've raised just under $1000!!!!  There is still time to bring in just $1 - as donations will be accepted up until this Monday, May 14.

6x's Testing

We were able to test just over half the class today on their 6's.
Those who did not get a chance today are getting 2 extra days to study....lucky you!!
Here are the people who will be tested on Monday:

Grade 2 Spelling Homework and words

This week the grade 2's have received grade 3 words! Congratulations grade 2's - you are moving up in the world.  Now we are learning 17 words instead of only 12.  This weeks words are HOMOPHONES - words that sound the same, but are spelled differently and have different meanings.  In addition to writing out our words, we also wrote sentences for each to help us remember the difference between each.
This weeks homework is to write another sentence for each word in our little spelling book.

main
mane
sail
sale
weak
week
heal
heel
right
write
side
sighed
road
rode
rowed

Jump Rope For Heart Donations

...if our class has 100% participation - that means, everyone brings in money, we can win a Movie day!!
I know many people have been raising a lot of money, but even if everyone just donates 1 DOLLAR we will still be up for the prize.  It doesn't matter how much money you raise.  Just fill out the form, bring in a dollar and voila! We'll have 100% participation

Coming Home Today...

Today the kids are bringing home a permission form for our upcoming class trip to The Bata Shoe Museum.  The trip has been organized by Mme. Demeter and will reflect the concepts covered this year in her Art classes.
The trip costs $6 and we will be taking public transit.  TTC fare will be covered by the school, and tickets will be distributed the day of the trip.  Please ensure the permission form and $6 are sent back no later than next Wednesday, May 16th.
One parent volunteer is invited on the trip and as usual, we are always looking for a new parent to volunteer their time.  I will take the volunteer on a first come basis.

As well, Our Fun Fair is fast approaching and the committee is looking for parents to volunteer their time at the event.  If this is something you wish to do, please fill out the green sheet that is coming home today and send it back ASAP. Someone from the committee will be in touch with you!

The 6x and 7x's tables are coming home today for studying purposes.  We will be testing on Friday of this week for the 6x's.  By the end of next week, we will do the 7x.

All those attening homework club have been informed that the club will run 15min less from now on  - it will end at 4:15pm.  Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Jump Rope for Heart Date

There have been a lot of kids wondering when their donations for Jump Rope are due.  I've heard that the donations are being collected at high speed!!  Remember every dollar counts.
Well, all these generous donations are due next, Friday May 11th.
On this day, we will also have our Jump Rope skipping event.  From 2-3pm we will be skipping our hearts out for all those who have suffered a stroke or have heart disease.

Homework this week...

In math we've begun discussing PROBABILITY...the chance of something happening.
Some of the words we've used to describe the chance or possibility of something happening are
impossible, certain, likely and unlikely.
The double-sided probably homework is due back tomorrow.
Also, we almost got through all the testing for the 4x tables.  Tonight at homework club, some were even tested on their 5x's!  So far, everyone is doing a super job.
Tomorrow, those who have not been tested, will continue to be throughout the afternoon.
