Safety Procedures + Homework

For the last few weeks we've been having very rich and meaningful discussions regarding various situations that we find ourselves in that could be potentially dangerous (e.g., staying home alone, using the Internet, venturing out without an adult, etc.)  Today we worked in small groups to establish safety guidelines for the following situations:  fire in the home, swimming in a pool (either public or private) and ice safety.  We also wrote out the procedure that we would follow at school in the event of a fire or fire drill. Tonight at home, students are asked to sit down as a family and create a procedure for getting out of the house safety when there is a fire.  Students need to ensure that steps are clear and in the proper order.  This is due tomorrow!

Flashlights!

Any grade 4 who has taken home their flashlights, can you please bring them back to school tomorrow? Any grade 3's reading this, you are also welcome to bring in a flashlight as well. We will need to keep them at school for the rest of the week!
Thanks

Measurement Homework - Perimeter and Area

Today we reviewed the concepts of measuring the area and the perimeter of shapes or spaces.  Tonight's homework reinforces our lesson and is due back tomorrow!

The link below will take you to a mini lesson on what we reviewed today. This game has a focus on the rectangle.  The interactive game allows you to measure the perimeter and area of various rectangles.

Below is another great lesson and game that walks you through area and perimeter.

Olympic Events - 2018

Over the month of February, our class had been working diligently on their brand new Olympic events. Groups were required to create a winter event that was completely new to the Olympics, design the course, the uniform and the create rules and the procedure for how the game is played. Tomorrow marks the start of our presentations! Here are the posters for you to enjoy…which one would you vote for?  (we are missing Kyia and Christina's Poster…stayed tuned)

Welcome Back!

What a productive day we had! It seems like a week off from school really did us all some good as everyone was well-engaged and motivated to work hard!  Way to Go everyone!!
Tonight your homework is to measure a couple people in your home.  Preferably, these two people should be of different sizes.  You need to measure them using your hand (remember the span of your hand is approximately 10 cm or 1 dm (decimetre).  Use your hands to find out how long their arm, leg and bodies are.
To help organize your data, you should be making a table that has 2 columns labeled as follows:
Person 1, Person 2
You should have 3 rows labeled as follows:
arm, leg, body

Bring your results to class tomorrow!

Today was the Half-Way mark!

So I'm just wondering how everyone is making out this March Break?
How have you been keeping busy?  Share your thoughts by replying or commenting to this post!

So far my break has been filled with some ups and downs…starting with downs. lol! I fell sick Friday and remained that way for three days! It was not fun.  After me, Charlee got sick with croup.  I hope to get to the Science Centre or the Zoo before the break is over.  What do you think of all the snow??

A Useful Math Website…for all grades…but it's limited

I've posted this link before.  www.ixl.com
As a non-paying member, you are limited to how many questions you can attempt, so i've been reluctant to post it again.  However, due to some recent requests, here it is once again.  I think i've gotten up to 20 questions before, but sometimes it's less.  Regardless, it can still offer some practice questions which doesn't hurt.

MULTIPLICATION needs more ATTENTION!

Our multiplication skills are weak! Our inability to multiply effectively has been hindering our ability to do division and counting on our fingers only gets us so far.  Most of the class has come home with a blank or partially started multiplication table that is due back tomorrow!  If a child did not come home with one, it is because I feel their ability to multiply is strong.
